(GLOBE AND MAIL) Quebec City lawyer Guy Bertrand told the Commission on the Accommodation of Religious Minorities Tuesday that Montreal Canadiens captain Saku Koivu is an example of Quebec culture being undermined. He uses the example to make the point that the French language is losing ground in Quebec because immigrants like Koivu, who is from Finland, do not bother to learn French even after years in the province. He says Quebec independence is the only way for the province to break away from Canada's official policy of multiculturalism, which he says threatens the survival of French language and culture.
